My name is Marcus Nettelbeck, since 30years I am a passionate photographer. I was born 1970 in Germany. In the 1980's I made my first photographic experiences in playing around with my father's analog cameras. A Canon AE1 and later his Canon T70 with regular 50mm lens and standard wide angle zoom were the tools I have started with. I took al given l opportunities to take pictures: at home, at school and of course during vacations. Very soon I learned that it takes much more to make great pictures than just having a technical understanding of the equipment. It is the eye behind the viewfinder that really matters! So I started a still ongoing journey in taking, evaluating and improving the way of taking pictures.
When digital cameras came into the market, the workflow of creating pictures has speeded up significantly. It became much easier to get better pictures. The same time the number of good devices to take pictures rose dramatically. So some devices, cameras and lenses of different types and brands came to my photo bag. Here comes a short description how I use them today:
The 'big' Canon's 1Dx, 5D full frames and 7D APC bodies I prefer to take for festival, event and portrait photography. The option to use and combine various fast lenses supports shootings where high quality outcome is required.
A couple of years ago, two Canon AE 1 Program's came into my photo bag again. It is a pleasure to use this traditional equipment. Beside all limitations there are huge benefits in using this old stuff. You need to take time an think twice before hitting the shutter button. There is no simple option of improving the shots afterwards. You need to make up your mind about the film material, ISO, black and white, color and grain. All options need to be set before taking the first picture and can not be changed until the film needs to be changed. But the best of using the old cameras is that you know all functions of every button and switch. No manual studies are required to explore the hidden menus or second function touch screen buttons ;-)
The small LUMIX Camara I love to use with the old analog and fast lenses. Even if there is no auto focus, it is amazing which great image quality these lenses, which are partly over 25years old bring on the small chip.
The thing which is always in reach or at least in my pocket. Meanwhile the quality of the cameras has reached amazing levels. I use it very often day to day for all purposes. I get best results if I follow my own rules for 'on the fly' pictures:
1. I do not use the digital zoom. If I need another image section, I crop it afterwards.
2. It may not take more than 2 minutes to make the picture - the sportive approach.
All these possibilities and options of taking pictures are highly appreciated and support my passion in 'catching the perfect moments'. This website is my platform to share them with you. If you have questions, comments, or any other feedback - just send me a mail.
